The outstanding movie for the young and old - Shrek Reviews

Very interesting movie. I have seen this movie for quite a lot of times and I'm still not tired of it.The storyline is quite simple and somewhat alike Beauty and the Beast and fits all nicely like a fairy tale except without the sweet cute little things but with a few mean crude humour in it. The voices were great, Mike Myers had a great accent along with it, Eddie Murphy as the ever talkactive and never shut up donkey and Cameron Diaz made the princess...well, sound like a princess. The computer animation was done quite good too. Everything seem quite real. Nonetheless, it's a great movie for both old and young. The old would find it a great comedy and the young would find it a great story.

Worth seeing - Shrek Reviews

This movie is about an ogre who hates everybody. When he saves a very annoying donkey they become friends. Then they have to save a princess if they do then he can have the swamp all to himself. This movie is a classic. It has humor, drama, and happiness. The voices are right on for the characters. Kids and parents will love this movie. The only thing I didn't like about this movie is that it cussed. Its G-rated material. It shouldn't have cussed. Due to that and some crude humor I gave it a B+.

Cool animated, fun fairy tale - Shrek Reviews

This one is fun for both children and adults. Much of the humor is subtle in both the dialog and the imagery. The music is an eclectic mix that really works well. I don't know how many times my family quotes the film spontaneously, such as shouting, "Pick three, my lord!" while holding up two fingers. Or, "Do I detect a hint of minty freshness?" Really fun stuff.

Ogerley funny! - Shrek Reviews

This movie is great and funny even though there were parts I didnt like still it was great. The characters were funny.Shrek is the hulk. Overall 2**. Hope the sequel is better. Number 19 in my All-Time Greatest Movies.

A funny adventure - Shrek Reviews

I find this movie funny. The movie begins in an outhouse in the swamp. Then, around a group of fairy-tail characters, when the fairy jar hits the donkey's head, the donkey started to fly and then he fell down. I also like the part that Shrek was arguing with his pet donkey. Then the true adventure of rescuing Princess Fiona from the dragon. The evil prince gets eaten up by the dragon and Shrek and Fiona lived happily ever after.

Boggus movie - Shrek Reviews

Corny and lame - Shrek Reviews

This movie was a huge disappointment. After all the hype, we rented this dismal, corny, pun-filled waste of time. Shrek subjected me to an ugly surreal attempt at humor... by sickenly placing "modern" jokes (The Macarana Song, the cool ethic donkey, etc.) into an ancient setting. About as original as today's rap stars using Sampled music in their songs... ZERO originality. Hated it. I love animated movies such as Monsters Inc., Toy Story, Lion King, Nemo... but they had truly original jokes and situations. Shrek 2 ? Just say no.

Overated but nice eye-candy - Shrek Reviews

Shrek I found to be dissapointing after so many people told me it was outsanding. The story its self was hopeless but the screenplay was not bad. This was truly funny in places and the graphics was the best I'd seen. Until I watched Monsters, Inc - which has a good story, amazing graphics and wounderful acting. A 6/10

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews

I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

Heh - Shrek Reviews

well, this movie was NOT AT ALL good compared to "Finding Nemo" but it had it's funney parts but were did the story go? WTF is that story? that is what is disapointing!

God, this was awful. - Shrek Reviews

The story sucked. It relied on humor to make it a good movie, and judging by all the positive reviews, that has worked for some people. If you think that the story is an essential part to the storyline, skip this movie.

Such an offensive movie - Shrek Reviews

On the one hand this movie is about accepting the monster despite the way he looks but then it turns around and says that it's OK to make fun of people because they are short. There are a few good ideas in this but they are ruined by damaging stereotypes. The only reason to see this is for the animation.

Hysterical - Shrek Reviews

You've probably heard or seen that Shrek is a hillarious fairy tale with modern twists, but you need to understand that this is a great film. You are laughing almost the whole time in this big-hearted zany fairy tale.

Shrek review - Shrek Reviews

This movie made me cry very hard because of the fantastic and amazing things they had put in the movie! Shrek and princess Fiona are the perfect matcha and couple! The movie is hilarious!

Love shrek - Shrek Reviews

This is a fantastic computer animated movie. It's so damn funny! It takes a lot of famous scenes from other movies and combines it in one but with an original story. You've got to see it, you won't regret it. You can get together with your friends and stay up late swapping manly stories and watching Shrek. And in the morning, you can make waffles. Highly recomended movie.

Disappointing!!!!!! - Shrek Reviews

Shrek was not a good movie at all. In fact, it was pretty horrible. The movie was not funny at all, the jokes and gags were flat and unfunny. If there is an animated movie to watch, I prefer you watch Monsters Inc. before you watch this load of crap.

Hindsight gives this one great marks - Shrek Reviews

I went and saw Shrek again at a kiddie show. There were little kids everywhere. It brought home to me the fact that human growth is so predictable. 10 year olds are always 10 year olds! This movie should be released every 6-7 years as should all of the Disney movies and Ice Age and all of the other great kids flicks. And they should all be marketed to adults because we really do need to be injected with innocence every once in awhile.

A great magical fantasy wonder - Shrek Reviews

Shrek is an outrageous magical fantasy film which is just like a classic fairytale. Mike Myers is hilarious in this film is the giant green ogre. As well as Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy, they're historical just as their characters. Shrek is an amazing movie to watch.

Animated love - Shrek Reviews

The computer animation is awesome, but what really makes this movie is that you get so caught up in the story and the characters that you forget it animation, you don't look for its effects instead you just want to see what happens. Its a sweet story with a surprising ending, very opposite to normal fairy tales. The actors did a great job, even if it was just their voices.

Everybody loves shrek - Shrek Reviews

I have never meet a person in my entire life that did not like the movie Shrek. It has a great cast of voices including Eddie Murphy, Carmon Diaz and my personal favorite Mike Myers. It is a great adventure tale with many hilarious parts. I cannot wait for the second one.

Awesome animation! - Shrek Reviews

Shrek is unquestionably an all time favorite movie among many of my friends and family. We have all watched it over and over many times??. We think the animation is just out of this world! It??s really awesome. The sad part is that the moral of the story is one we all pass by as nothing important. See, knowing others and how quickly they catch on to the movie, I can understand there opinions about it. I think the message the movie is trying to hand out is saying, ??Get to know someone you??ve briefly met before you start judging them.?? I have a great relationship with one of my friends because of who she is, not who I thought she was or should have been. I admit Shrek is more of an ??adult cartoon??. It??s loaded with bad-mannered remarks, mild swearing, mature comedy, etc. I am old enough to understand that stuff and luckily it doesn??t bother the younger ones because they??re too young to even care about it. They watch Shrek because of the fun, bright colors and quick movement. I like the movie because of the message it gives and its stand-up comedian approach. Eddie Murphy is certainly one to stir up action when it comes to a dull movie??. Personally I like how his character, Donkey, turns from an irritating ear-drummer to a reasonable and considerate creature. I just love Donkey?K?K

Another masterpiece in the animation department!! - Shrek Reviews

Shrek is the "greateat story never told" and it's a flipping good job for us it was told!! With Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow and Eddie Murphy lending their voices for the fantastic characters and wonderful scenery this film deserved an Oscar! With all the advances that have been made in computer animation we shouldn't really be suprised that Shrek turned out as great and memorable as it did. I give it 5 stars for characters, scenery and story. I don't think that anything in this film could be improved. p.s. I love Donkey! (Eddie Murphy)

Great family movie - Shrek Reviews

This movie was a pretty good movie. It was meant for all audiences so that is good. I thought that the visuals could be a lot better though. But Overall I thought that it was a great movie.

An exciting non-pixar film - Shrek Reviews

Something that is very appealing about Shrek is that it will not only find an audience with children, but also with adults. Shrek is loaded with smart comedy and enjoyable voice overs from the whole cast.

A must see! - Shrek Reviews

When my friends told me to go and see it I was hesetent because I hate cartoon movies. But when I saw this I loved it.

I dont understand... - Shrek Reviews

I could understand how quite a few people did not like Moulin Rouge, one of my personal favorites... but i just dont understand how one can NOT like shrek, unless, of course, the person holds some personal grudge towards one of the cast or crew members or thinks it promotes witchcraft (??) or something... It's just such a classic movie!! The story was awesome... the acting was SUPERB!! Especially Eddie Murhpy, whose work, i admit, i hadnt really liked until this. The movie was full of witty humor and i couldnt stop laughing. I've seen this movie ATLEAST 15 times already... it never gets old. I loved every bit of this... including the "what are you doing?" "well, i've got to save my ass" line. it's just genious... if you havent seen it, you're crazy!! Even if you dont like it... which i doubt... you'll have something to argue about with others. A good conversation topic. Plus the movie makes money.. SO EVERYBODY WINS!!

The greatest fairy tale never told! - Shrek Reviews

Shrek is completely new. Never has a fully CGI movie taken on the twists, turns, and surprises as Shrek has. It's a full parody of numerous fairytales, and its humor is, well, humor at its best. Grown men will laugh at the jokes of Farquaad's Stature and the hidden meaning behind every little comment. Of course Shrek, like all other movies, has its emotional moments (so what if I lied about it being completely new?). And these moments aren't cheesy or anything. They are kind of funny, but at the time of viewing you won't really feel like laughing. You'll feel like the characters. Like its CGI, Shrek has taken a new dimension. It stretches out. You're in the movie. No, wait, you're watching a movie. It's so hard to tell. The characters are so real, so lifelike, it makes you feel you're there. The environments are realistic, yet still animated. The wind whispers through the grasslands and the characters' hair; the lightning and clouds are really there... aren't they? I was stunned and absorbed in this movie. And unlike other movies, it has more than just CGI. It's actually got a plot. And what a plot it's got! This one is totally new. Shrek is ordered to rescue a princess from the fiery keep guarded by a dragon in order to clear out his swamp of the menacing fairytale creatures. But it doesn't stop there. The movie is full of surprises and stretches on further into what actually happens after. The dialogue demands your attention throughout the movie, and then the dragon comes in. Whenever you see the dragon, you'll know good things are bound to happen (but not necessarily for the characters in the movie). The dragon is a comic relief, but still provides most of the action in the movie. She chases Donkey and Shrek through the keep, she flies to help rescue Fiona from a despicable marriage, and she even has the satisfaction of swallowing a midget. Shrek is perfect for everybody to see. The little ones will love the vivid colors and lush landscapes. The adults will enjoy this as well as the intelligent humor and deep plot. And no one could dislike the arrangement of songs. They fit really nice into the movie. Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell's composed music is impressive (especially the theme for Escape from the Dragon). You might also like: Finding Nemo, Toy Story 1 & 2, Shrek 2 (2004) and Monsters, Inc.

One of the best since tarzan. - Shrek Reviews

This is a classic.Even after so many years people are still watching it.Its one of those rare computer-generated movies made since Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Tarzan and A Bug's Life.Mike Myers who was famous for the Austin Powers trilogy saved his career through this movie.Shrek is truly outstanding. It has a classical story because it involved all the other classical cartoon stories such as Pinocchio, the ginger bread man, and many more stories we have seen when we were kids. It has a sense of humour about it, it makes fun of the fairy-tale world but at the same time it has a story of its own which can be considered as a fairy-tale too. Kids will love it so as adults and men will love it so as women. This is a family movie and a classic.

Shrek review - Shrek Reviews

I loved this movie! Donkey is hilarious! Made me laugh out loud! Shrek is an awesome movie! Two thumbs up!

Instant classic for all ages - Shrek Reviews

Im not sure I can say anything new about this film that hasn't already been said. It's simply the greatest animation movie ever made that has the ability to reach out to any age group. Phoenominal.

Shrek: a must see - Shrek Reviews

Shrek is a must-see film for all ages! Audiences loves the characters Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy portray! This movie has very eye-catching visuals and outstanding acting!

A 'brand new' classic - Shrek Reviews

SHREK is a sign that animated movies have grown up, but still retain the kid inside them. Informed by the sophisticated skepticism of recent animation products from "The Simpsons" to "South Park," SHREK harkens back to great classics of children's animation to weave a traditional fairy tale, with a contemporary spin. It's a strange day in Toonland when a misunderstood and lovable ogre (Mike Myers, in the title role) agrees to rescue a princess (Cameron Diaz) for a self-absorbed nobleman (John Lithgow), with a wise-cracking jack ass (Eddie Murphy) in tow ("I have to save my ass," SHREK quips before he rescues Donkey from a fire-breathing dragon, at one point). The flatulence jokes and contemporary cultural references (pro-wrestling, TV's "The Dating Game," and Rupert Holmes' "The Pi??olada Song," are among the many) are only atmospherics, of course. But, there's more. In addition to the updated casing, SHREK is novel at the core. The moral of the story is to say that it's possible not to have a storybook ending, or a fairy tale life, and still live happily ever after, the end. This moral, of course, makes SHREK a true fairy tale, by the encyclopedic definition of that term. The difference between fairy tales and other fictional works may be that, unlike other stories, fairy tales personify elemental values through archetypal forms. Enchanted forests and princesses and glass slippers and poisoned apples are the vocabulary with which they express otherwise unspeakable truths about the magic, the nobility, the beauty -- and, the beast -- inside our own actions. SHREK knows this, but it tells it much better than I just did, adding to its language also pieces of popular culture and contemporary life to make its stew palatable and fresh. An unconventional ending seals a package that is engrossing and ingratiates itself well. In addition to the beauty and the beast story that emerges to the forefront (it's not quite beauty and the beast as it turns out), SHREK is also a buddy tale. Both story lines contain some nice insights about the difficulty of knowing -- really knowing; piercing the defensive walls of -- someone else. The dexterity with which the film handles the theme is illustrated in an exchange where the chatty Donkey (Murphy) tries to probe into SHREK (Myers)'s psyche and SHREK tries to explain himself with a metaphor: SHREK: Ogres are like onions. DONKEY: They both smell? SHREK: No! They have layers. There's more to us underneath. So, ogres are like onions. DONKEY: Yeah, but nobody likes onions! The Donkey goes on to propose what he thinks is a better metaphor: Cakes. Cakes also have layers, and everybody *likes* cakes. So, each character is projecting his own assumptions (A. It's okay not to be liked; B. It's essential not to be disliked!) into the conversation, and thus erecting a wall that neither character can get past. The problem recurs later in the film with respect to the main story. This kind of depth and entertainment value gives SHREK an irresistible charm. (Carlos Colorado)
